This Jorvik Boot or York Viking Boot as it is sometimes called is based on the originals found at the Coppergate dig at York (10th-11th century) and is fashioned with an overlap closure and secured with two (2) toggles for adjustment of any ankle size.
The thick sole allows for a pair of Viking boots that are hand stitched with proper period stitches and techniques, which are very durable and comfortable.
This model has been designed with the Fighting Re-enactor, SCA, Dagorhir, Live Combat heavy fighter in mind with its heavy reinforced heel. The thick sole leather continues from the sole up the back of the heel providing a very sturdy reinforced heel. No more sagging Viking boots. Vibram soles are available for this model as well for help in traction.
These Medieval Boots are the welted (nailed) construction. The leather used in making these boots is tanned using the centuries old oak tanning process using only natural barks instead of harsh chemicals used in modern tanning processes. This process provides supple leather with a pebbled leather finish for a nice period look. This really brings out the natural beauty of the leather.
Made with 4-5 ounce top grain cow hide, natural leather inner soles and a thick 12 ounce leather outer sole, Crafted by skilled cobblers, using the same techniques as their medieval counterparts, and with re-enactors in mind, our footwear is hand stitched and with normal maintenance will provide years of long service.
**These Viking shoes run true to US sizes. Order your normal shoe size when ordering. The shoes are made to fit a regular width foot. If you have a wider foot, we can stretch up to a EE width, but you must tell us when ordering.**
** For those folks that are not used to the softness of period medieval boots and shoes and are in need of arch support, we recommend adding a modern insole. The shoes do stretch a bit, so order your normal size.
Also, for those folks needing more support as in Medieval Live Combat, SCA, Dagorhir or that don’t do well on slick bottomed shoes, we have added the rubber sole option to your boots. We have tried to keep the cost down of this option just for this purpose**
The rubber sole option will add 2 weeks to the shipping time as we have to customize these for you.
